Breaking my arm canceled my job at the Olympics which was very upsetting. It was a paid position with access to many areas. A photographers dream. Just think, they would pay me to go to the Olympics. So what did I do you ask? I sat at home in pain sulking while watching on tv. The seats were good though but it lacked all the color and buzz. The pictures didn’t turn out lol.
Well I went to Hawaii and had a nice time. I went in the pool but not to all my normal snorkel and dive beaches. But that was ok, I made up for it by looking around.
Up island on the northern shore I like to go to Paia. It is on the Hana Hwy just a few minutes drive from the airport exit. This is a great spot for shopping in smaller artists stores. I always think of the 60s when I go there. It is so colourful (Cdn spelling) and friendly. Willey Nelson has his restaurant there. Good food, big portions, friendly staff and parking in the rear. Further up the highway about 15 minutes is the wind-surfing and surfing beach with a great upper lookout.
Well we asked about Larimar and there was some, but they told us to go up the hill to a small cowboy town and that is where we found a fellow Canadian with tons of beautiful grade Larimar and many other jewels both set and loose. This was a good find. After talk about the Olympic hockey and other Canadian winners we settled in the jewelry.
If you go to Maui and like to explore a bit I would recommend Little Tibet as a great place to check out. Make sure you tell him your Canadian (if you are and even if your not). They are very nice people and easy to talk to, which I will be doing next year when I go back.

Jacques and his daughter Sundaurap were born in Montreal, Canada
but moved to Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. They shared this island
with many world famous artists. Seeking sun and warmth they
moved to Hawaii and set up residence on the island of Maui.
Little Tibet has a wide range of stones set in hand made jewelry
produced by Jacques. One of the most beautiful stones is Lurimar and is plentiful in this store.
Larimar is a rare gemstone found exclusively in a small inaccessible region of the Dominican Republic. A variety of pectolite, an acid silicate hydrate of calcium and sodium, original inhabitants of this country have long been aware of this extremely rare stone, but it was first qualified as a gemstone in 1974 by Miguel Mendez.
Due to its magnificence and aesthetics, Larimar Stone is widely preferred as a gemstone. Its brilliant blue coloration, which resembles the sky, the planet earth, and the deep Caribbean waters, has raised the belief that this stone helps stress reduction. These reasons have widely contributed to Larimar being used in jewelry. Due to its natural occurrence in the Dominican Republic, Larimar jewelry is available practically on ever street corner and beach in the country. Silver is commonly used for jewelry manufacture, but gold is preferred especially for higher grades of the Larimar.
